Setup Your Oculus Quest 2 headset

Charge the Headset
To start, plug the charging cord into your Oculus Quest 2 headset and a power source to begin charging it. The charging indicator turns green once it’s fully charged. If you haven’t already charged your Quest 2, we recommend keeping your headset connected to power while it runs the initial updates.

Download the Oculus mobile app and create your account
If you’re new to Oculus, or using Oculus Quest 2, a Facebook account is required to use your device, apps and the Oculus store. You can create a Facebook account by tapping “Sign Up” on the first screen of the device setup process in the Oculus mobile app.
Adjust your headset fit and view
1. To start, you’ll want to gently adjust the lenses by shifting them left, then right until they click into the position that allows you to see what’s on the screen most clearly.

2. Next, adjust the side straps. To do this, move the two sliders on either side of the top strap.

  • To loosen the side straps, move the sliders toward the top strap. To tighten the side straps, move the sliders away from the top strap.
  • After you move the sliders, re-center the top strap between the sliders so that the two sides are equal, and the top strap is centered on your head when you put the headset on.
  • Keep in mind, you’ll need to remove the headset from your head to re-adjust the side straps with the sliders.
3. If you’re wearing glasses, make sure to insert the glasses spacer. When you’re ready to put the headset on, put it on from front to back.
4. Place the headset on your head, then remove it and make any additional adjustments to the side straps as needed.
5. Once you’ve got the side straps set, put your headset back on and adjust the top strap. You can adjust the top strap by pulling apart the velcro and re-attaching it so that your Quest 2 rests lightly on your face and the picture is clear.
6. You can fine tune your headset fit and clarity by gently moving the firm arms on either side of your Quest 2 up and down to adjust the angle of the headset against your face.
7. Once your headset is adjusted, follow the instructions in-VR and in the Oculus mobile app to complete the setup process

Finding the Serial Number for your Oculus Quest 2

Quest 2 and Quest headsets, as well as Oculus Touch controllers, all have unique 14-digit serial numbers.
To locate the serial number for your headset and controllers:
  • Oculus.com: You can find the serial number for your Quest 2 or Quest headset by logging into Oculus.com and visiting https://secure.oculus.com/my/devices/
  • Oculus mobile app: Open the Oculus mobile app on your phone and tap Devices at the bottom. Your headset and its serial number can be found here.
  • Headset: On the left side of your headset, gently pull the strap connector away from the headset until it pops off. Your headset serial number is below the QR code.
  • Touch controllers: Remove the battery door from your Touch controller, then remove the battery. Your controller serial number will be on the inside of the controller under the battery below the QR code.
  • Box/packaging: On the outside of your Oculus Quest 2 box, look for a white sticker marked with a bar code. Under the bar code, find S/N to see your headset’s serial number.

Putting the Oculus Quest 2 to sleep

When you’re not using your Oculus Quest 2 or Quest, it can either be put to sleep or turned off entirely.
Putting your headset to sleep
Putting your headset to sleep means that it will automatically “wake up” when it senses that the headset has been placed on someone’s head. When your headset is in sleep mode, power will still drain from the device, although much more slowly than when it’s in use.
You can put your headset to sleep by pressing the power button on your headset. You can wake it back up by placing the headset on your head.
Turning your headset off
Turning your headset off means that the system is completely off, and will only turn on when the power button is held. When your headset is turned off, much less power will be drained than if it were in sleep mode.
You can turn your Quest or Quest 2 off by holding down the power button for at least three seconds until the indicator light turns off.

Wearing glasses with Oculus Quest 2

our Quest 2 or Quest comes with a glasses spacer in the box for wearing glasses while using the headset. Before installing the glasses spacer, check to make sure the width and height of your frames are the following sizes:
  • Width: 142mm or less
  • Height: 50mm or less
Once you’ve made sure your glasses are the right size, insert the glasses spacer into your headset to provide a larger fit.
Note: If your frames are too large for the included glasses spacer, you can shop online for third party glasses spacers or prescription lens inserts for your headset.
To insert the eyeglass spacer:
1. Gently remove the facial interface foam from your headset.
2. Take the glasses spacer that came with your headset, and attach it to your headset by pressing it into place where your facial interface foam just was.
3. Re-insert the facial interface foam back into place on top of the glasses spacer.
When you put on your headset with glasses, put it on from front to back.
When you remove your headset, pull it forward and then take it off.
